TIP # 14

Introducing the San Francisco Magic Parlor

Another great way to narrow down your search for the perfect entertainer for your perfect event?

See them live, in action, if you can. If your candidates are out of town maybe a video will be on sites like YouTube (although videos can make a poor choice look great, and a great choice look poor depending on how it was shot and edited.)

If the performers who are "in the running" are local, it's worth the trip to see them perform live. If they are doing a private or corporate event, understand that visitors may not be allowed. But if they are performing at a public venue, you can get a sample of their work, style, and personality, and a "vibe" about them. Follow your hunches!

Spellbinder Entertainment is opening a venue in downtown San Francisco, and excellent and entertaining way to preview the show you'll book, the San Francisco Magic Parlor opens in October 2012 for an extended run.

Tip #13 Hurry, hurry, hurry! Last minute Shopping?

Tip #13

Oh, oh— it’s almost Thanksgiving, then the rollercoaster runs full speed and non-stop into Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanzaa, and a bunch of other celebratory occasions— then New Year strikes at Midnight.

Have you explored your entertainment options and settled on the best match for you party?
What?
No?
Then now is the time to get serious. There is still time to save the day and make a terrific impression, so don’t fret.

The process is the same as the steps below in this blog, but sped up and truncated. Don’t rush into a mistake, do your homework, and don’t “settle.” Now more than ever you’ll tell the pros from the rest by their willingness to help you out and save the day.

Yes, many of the topflight performers are booked, and may have been for months, but there are cancelations, changes in plans, or a date that can be tucked in here and there. The lesser entertainers may have an open schedule… but there’s a reason for that.

Get on the phone -don’t email- and be forthright about what you need and when you need it, then close your mouth and see what comes out of your perspective performer's mouth. It will tell you a lot, a whole lot, and speed along your ultimate decision.

Last minute shopping? You bet. However that doesn’t mean your stocking won’t be full when your event begins!

Happy Holidays, and entertaining ones as well!
See you next year?

Tip #12 Weddings and Anniversaries and Funerals (?) Oh My!

Tip #12

There are so many kinds of celebrations and events that are enlivened by quality entertainment. Our annual November/December Holidays just scratch the surface!

I’ve performed for events that include: weddings, anniversaries… and if not actual funerals, defiantly at a few memorial services. At weddings and anniversaries I have created special magical moments, for just the couple to share, and magically toasted the guests.

Add to the list of parties and events: Birthdays, holidays like St. Patrick’s, Easter, 4th of July. bar mitzvahs, graduations… the list goes on and on Then there are the business and corporate meetings including: Conferences, conventions, client banquets, sales meetings, and office parties.

Wow, as you seem, there are a lot of occasions and celebrations that are enhanced by out-of-the-box entertainment!

The point of the above lists? When you’re looking to fill that gap and your need for special entertainment to make your event even more special… and memorable, talk to your entertainment candidates about specialization, customization, and how they can tailor their offerings to personalize your event, or provide a singular treat to your guests of honor.

You’d be surprised how many event planners forget to mention that. To inquire about the little details that can make your hour or so of entertainment truly come to life, and can create very extraordinary, long lasting memories for your attendees or guests.

My advice is simple: Ask for more, and see if your entertainer can and will go the extra mile for you.

See you soon!

Tip #11 – Don’t Fall for all the hype, find the real deal.

Tip #11

The Holiday Season is just around the corner… Yikes!

Do you have a place and a plan so your guests are “uniquely” and truly entertained yet? Better start learning who’s naughty or nice out there in the entertainment world.

I’m getting a ton of calls from potential clients in a last minute rush to reserve dates for this year’s entertainer. They mostly fall into two categories: the Informed and the Uninformed.

It’s not my job to “sell” myself to my uninformed clients, it’s my job to help educate them, so they make a sound decision whether they settle on me or not. Part of my role as a service provider in the entertainment industry is to give them tips (like on my blog you’re reading) and to lead them to the best choice for their particular event and circumstances.

Many magical entertainers have the same copy and hype on their websites: greatest, famous, award winning, acclaimed, unique… and guess what about 85% are not those things and close to 15% are what the site claims and can stand behind their words.

Speaking of that word “unique” it can be a very accurate description… or it can be a meaningless word.  If you visit YouTube and search for magical entertainment in your area, you’ll see lots of performers with that “one-of-a-kind, cutting edge, unique” hype. But if you watch a bunch of videos closely you see the same old boxes, the same driving music, the same old moves, the same old jokes, and the same timeworn routines.

Don’t shop for “cutting edge” or unique, shop for the fit that fits your needs like Santa’s glove!

Talk to your potential entertainers. Yep, I sound like a broken record… but that is such a key to success. If they send you in the right direction, and talk honestly about their offerings, and do not high pressure, upsell, or exaggerate their shows, then your on the right track.

I wish you all a happy and prospers Holiday Season and a New Year filled with the joy of true entertainment. Give a call, I promise to help you achieve your goals, not shove my “cutting edge” show on you.

See you soon!
